Covid-19 vaccination started in Bethany Hospital, Shillong today and was inaugurated by Director, Bethany Hospital, who is also a wife of (Late) Dr. John L. Sailo Ryntathiang, Achula Sailo where she was the first beneficiary from the Hospital to receive the jab.
“It was a historic moment for us as we were the first to be hit by coronavirus in the state. We lost our dearest founder and director. We were shutdown for 40 days. We were stigmatised and it was one of the most difficult times we had experienced. How we wished this vaccine was an option a year ago and how different everything would have been,” Dr. Kyntiewlang Sanmiet, Nodal Officer amd Spokesperson, Bethany Hospital, Shillong said in a press release.
Sharing the excitement of the hospital, Dr Sanmiet said that the hospital is proud and humbled to be a part of the watershed moment as first phase of Covid vaccination continues.
“It’s really hard to put into words how exciting this is for us the Bethany family to receive this vaccination. This is the start of the next phase of battling the pandemic, when we’ll finally have the right preventive measures in place, in addition to the masks and social distancing and hand washing that we’ve been doing, to really protect our team and begin to protect the community.”
Dr Sanmiet further appreciated scientists who have worked diligently to develop vaccines, the state government and public health professionals working to get the vaccines distributed and health-care workers who fought to protect the community.
