Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek today said that the Covid-19 situation in Meghalaya is difficult to “assess and predict” but that behavioural change is necessary to bring case numbers down.
“If people strictly and stringently follow the protocols of the Health Department then we will see the cases decline. But if people are not following the protocols and don’t change their behaviour, cases will keep increasing,” he said.
There is a progressive decline in Covid cases in all North East states except Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, Hek also said that he is still against the pre-fab Covid healthcare facilities that are being planned for Tura and Shillong.
“Instead of spending on a temporary pre-fab structure, why not spend this amount for a permanent structure?” he asked rhetorically while admitting that the funds have been provided by the Centre for pre-fabricated units.
The state government has decided to create pre-fab buildings for coronavirus care in Shillong and Tura, sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) at an amount of Rs 6.7 crore. The two pre-fab facilities will have 100 beds each.
