A member of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) has been nominated to attend the Basic Mountaineering Course at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling.
Ricky Rani, a resident of Lad Mawphlang has been sponsored for this course by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs. The training which began today will run till March 28.
In a press release today, MeSCMA president Malviancy Shabong said Rani’s participation in the training will benefit the association to promote, encourage the youth of the state to take interest in adventure activities and learn the rope access techniques, solution of evacuation for search and rescue.
As mountaineering is a combination of physical, mental and psychological strength as well as endurance and teamwork, she said, before attending such courses trainees need to prepare themselves for at least four months with proper nutrition and physical exercise.
