The A•we Festival 2024 began in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills, today.
The festival, which aims to showcase the diverse and unique tradition of North Garo Hills, will conclude tomorrow with various activities lined up for the occasion.
Deputy Speaker and local MLA Timothy D Shira was the chief guest at the inauguration and lauded the district administration for organising the event in a vibrant manner.
The festival has not been held for the last four years, due first to the Covid-19 pandemic, but it was able to resume this year to allow the citizens of the district to have a platform to display their talents, creativity, promoting local businesses and foster economic growth.
Shira promised the gathering an even more grand A•we Festival in the upcoming year by donating funds and collaborating with all the MLAs of the district.
Similar festivals are being held in other districts with names specific to their area. In North Garo Hills A•we Festival symbolises one of the sub-tribes of the Garo community known for their hospitable nature and love for food, music and dance.
After the inauguration Shira launched the stalls exhibited by government departments, such as Health, Agriculture-Horticulture, Fisheries, Handlooms, DCIC, etc.
He also launched the ‘Health ATM’, which conducts instant body vitals screening.
Activities lined up for the two-day A•we Festival include a flowers and vegetables show, indigenous games, cooking competition, singing competition, dance competition, beauty contest, baby show and rock concert by various local artists.
