There were a further 809 new coronavirus cases recorded in the state today, along with 597 recoveries and 12 Covid-related deaths.
Despite still adding more new cases than recoveries, the rolling average of new infections (on a seven-day basis) has dropped for the second day running. It now stands at 882.43, a fall of 53.43 compared to yesterday. There have also been improvements in the recovery rate and fatality rate in the state.
The number of new infections today was the second-lowest in Meghalaya in the past 10 days. And for the third successive day East Khasi Hills reported more recoveries than new cases.
Eleven fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one in West Jaintia Hills. All 12 had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.
The deceased were identified as Jayanti Barman (74) of Laitumkhrah, Pynshngain Langpen (38) of Lamavilla Lumdiengjri, Sinora Mylliemngap (50) of Umthli Laitlyngkot, Binesh Rana (39) of Upper Shillong, Kumar Pradhan (54) of Madanrting, Bitalin Marwein (58) of Nongspung, Bal Kumari Mizar (70) of Riat Laban, Bhim Kumari Mawrie (45) of Laitkor, Bisina Khongthaw (75) of Pynursla, Sherap Tergayal (85) of Mawbah, Joseph Aier (65) of Nongrim Hills, Myown War (52) of Jowai.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 419 of today’s reported infections, including seven among armed forces/paramilitaries, one health worker, 10 in Dhanketi, 10 in Laban, 15 in Lafarge Umiam company, 21 in Madanrting, 44 in Mawlai, 11 in Mawpat, 10 in Mawtangor, 20 in Nongmynsong, 15 in Nongspung, 12 in Nongthymmai, 10 in Pongkung, 19 in Sunny Hill and 214 in various other neighbourhood clusters and categories.
West Jaintia Hills reported 109 new cases (including two health workers, 14 in Mihmyntdu Lumpyrtuh, 11 in Mynska, 13 in Myntriang, 11 in Wahiajer), South West Garo Hills 63 (including 46 in Garobadha), West Garo Hills 59 (including eight police personnel), West Khasi Hills 50 (including one health worker), Ri-Bhoi 46 (including four police, one returnee), East Garo Hills 26 (including three health workers, 16 in Rongjeng), South West Khasi Hills 17 (including 12 in Nonglang, one returnee), East Jaintia Hills 11 (including two health workers) and North Garo Hills nine (including one health worker).
There were also 597 recoveries today – 429 in East Khasi Hills, 59 in Ri-Bhoi, 23 in West Garo Hills, 21 in East Jaintia Hills, 18 in West Jaintia Hills, 18 in North Garo Hills, nine in West Khasi Hills, eight in East Garo Hills, seven in South West Garo Hills and five in South West Khasi Hills.
There are now 8,255 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 4,214 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,225, West Jaintia Hills 656, West Garo Hills 619, South West Garo Hills 433, East Jaintia Hills 227, South West Khasi Hills 209, West Khasi Hills 200, North Garo Hills 173, East Garo Hills 152 and South Garo Hills 147.
In all, Meghalaya has had 33,104 Covid-19 cases, of which 8,255 are active, 24,325 have recovered and 524 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 73.48 percent. The fatality rate has decreased to 1.58 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 882.43.
