The safety audit into the collapsed dome of the new Assembly building is more or less complete, Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh informed today.
The report shall be finalised by the end of August, following which it will be discussed at the committee level to take things forwards. The last such meeting was held in July.
The safety audit is being carried out by a team from IIT Guwahati. The under-construction central dome collapsed around midnight on May 22. The rest of the building is still standing.
According to the Speaker, the audit team have completed their investigations into the safety of the two wings of the building. They will now ascertain the strength of the central portion of the building from the Public Works Department (Buildings) and will look to access the foundations, so that findings from these areas can be submitted in the report as well.
