The state Assembly’s committee on government assurances inspected the site for the proposed construction of an entry/exit checkpoint at Umling, Ri-Bhoi today.
The inspection was led by the committee Chairman Nujorki Sungoh, who was accompanied by committee members Mayralborn Syiem, Wailadmiki Shylla and Adelbert Nongrum. Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah was also present along with other officials.
At the start of this month Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had promised that the checkpoint, meant to stop illegal infiltration into the state, would be complete within 60 days’ time. It had come into the news after the government de-sanctioned construction work instead preferring a pre-fabricated building on site.
Sungoh and Syiem expressed satisfaction that the 60-day deadline would be met.
