Members of the regional committees constituted by Assam and Meghalaya today visited eight villages along the interstate border areas of Assam and Ri Bhoi district.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong along with Assam cabinet minister, Pijush Hazarika led the cabinet-level committees of their States to the inspection at Mawiong, Barapathar, Pillangkata A, B, Maikhuli, Patharkuchi, Pahamkinshoh and Khanapara villages.
The ministers said that the inspection to these villages was held as part of the commitment in settling the border dispute in accordance with the decisions taken at the chief-ministerial level meeting.
They also informed that the visit to these villages was also held after the meeting of both the regional committees held yesterday at Vivanta Taj Hotel where documentations of these lands were verified.
Both the representative of the regional committees said that the report collected during the visit under Pillangkata-Khanapara cluster will be submitted to their respective chief ministers.
Meanwhile, in East Jaiñtia Hills district a meeting was also held in Ratacherra between officials of both the states that include cabinet minister Sñiawbhalang Dhar representing Meghalaya and Assam cabinet Chandra Mohan Patowary to discuss on the border dispute.
It may be mentioned that Assam and Meghalaya have mutually agreed to find amicable solutions to disputes in six of the 12 areas of differences that are Tarabari, Gizang, Hahim, Boklapara, Khanapara-Pilangkata and Ratacherra – falling under West Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi and East Jaiñtia Hills districts in Meghalaya and Cachar, Kamrup Metro and Kamrup districts in Assam.
