The dorbar shnong of Dangar in Mawsynram has stated that an inter-state drug trafficker who was recently arrested on suspicion of transporting drugs into the state from Nagaland is not a resident of the village.
Ri Bhoi police arrested one Alpanush Marak on October 24 who had travelled from Nagaland via Assam with an intention to proceed to Shillong carrying heroin worth Rs 45 lakh in a tourist vehicle.
The village dorbar in a statement today said that out of 248 households over 1200 residents were enquired about Marak. “There is no such name or person who is involved in illegal activities,” general secretary Armstrong L Thongney said.
He further informed that the dorbar shnong has collaborated with the police to organise public meetings and awareness programmes on various issues concerning the society, especially the menace of drugs.
“We are watchfully that no one from this region will be under the clutches and influence of drug addiction and be involved in such menace,” Thongney said.
