The Meghalaya Arm Wrestling Association (MAWA) will hold the state championship to select players to represent the state at the national level.
The championship will be held at the Khasi Jaiñtia Assembly Hall from May 7.
MAWA adviser, Michael N. Massar told reporters that the selected participants will be chosen to fight at the national level to be held in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile at the press conference, the Bouncer Association of Meghalaya also held a brief award ceremony and gave away the first Kennedy Memorial Awards to Johnny Nongrum for kick boxing, Mordekai Simon Kharpuri for Brazilian Jujitsu, Badalin Kharbyngar, who won the Shillong arm fight, Donor Rumnong, 10th Mr Universe, Mr Physique and Miss Ri Bhoi Bala Makri.
The award is named after the former vice president of the association, Kennedy Warlarpih.
Kennedy’s wife, Jeblinda Kharmalki, his mother, Fastinia Warlarpih and sister, Risuk warlarpih were also felicitated on the occasion.
