Simon Shylla, a resident of Umlyngka locality has been sent to 14-days judicial custody by a court on Friday.
Shylla (30) was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making anti-national statements related to the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people on April 22.
He was arrested by the special cell of the East Khasi Hills police after he posted anti-national comments on a video aired by a TV news channel, Northeast Live News.
Superintendent of Police, Vivek Syiem had said Shylla through his facebook account named, ‘Man Shylla’ made the comments by supporting the terrorists in their killing and exhorting terrorists to initiate such attacks on a particular community in the North East, threatening the unity and integrity of the country.
Police seized two mobiles from his possession and a case has been registered at Lumdiengjri police station under sections 113(3)/196(1)(a)/147 BNS.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, reacting to the arrest, exhorted citizens not to engage in such acts. “Be it local or non local we urge them not to misread or mislead people because we are dedicated and are here to ensure that every citizen are safe and sound,” he said.
Tynsong said police are on the job to ensure that such acts are not repeated.
