“Angh’ — the Konyak language drama film — should be the toast of the country for its unique splendid journey from Nagaland to the Oscars via Canada!
The debut film of Theja Rio — set in a Nagaland village of 1960s — featuring a father and son on the threshold of cultural crossroads with the former remaining true to the indigenous culture and the latter getting attracted towards Christianity, not only bagged the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival as a recognition of films with “particular distinctive directorial voice”; but has also found a place in the International Feature Film category in the upcoming 2027 Academy awards.
That India doesn’t start with Delhi/ Mumbai and end with Hindi/Bollywood; rather it is an unfathomable canvas of diversity featuring kaleidoscope of cultures and ethnicities, must surely be appreciated in all corners of the world through such exquisite films flying the flag of untold regions of this heterogeneous country of ours!
