An alternative government sans the present NPP-led MDA constituent is the only way that accountability and responsibility can be fixed and corruption cases can be brought to the logical conclusion, the Voice of the People Party (VPP) today said.
The VPP is a new organisation that is led by former MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit and is hoping to make an entrance into the Assembly at the next state election in 2023.
Assistant general secretary of the party, Dr. Batskhem Myrboh in a statement said with numerous serious allegations of corruption under the present government, which comprises of the NPP, UDP, HSPDP, BJP, PDF and other independent MLAs, requires an independent probe.
But, he said, “It is only when an alternative government is formed that serious investigation can happen, corruption cases be exposed and the corrupt is punished. In the absence of such a change, all the cries against corruption will not have any tangible result as the culprit shall remain roaming without being punished.”
Myrboh said that it is logical that any probe by the existing government will fail to bring out the truth and will be simply an eyewash exercise without really revealing the necessary truth. “Who will punish oneself? This fact has already been experienced by the public under this government where its various commissions/committees probing its own alleged irregularities/corruption/excesses were simply a waste of public money,” he questioned.
While appealing people to exercise their democratic right judiciously to elect an alternative government, Myrboh said, “The people should not forget that the real power lies in their hands and what they sow in 2023 will have repercussions for the next five years and even after.”
