In view of the prevailing heatwave and to ensure the safety of students, all outdoor activities, including sports, in all schools in Meghalaya are to be kept in abeyance until further notice.
This was stated by the Director of School Education and Literacy, Swapnil Tembe, in an order today.
Schools must also ensure that students remain hydrated by drinking water regularly, with provision of ORS and/or lemon juice ready in cases where required. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottles from home.
Prolonged exposure to the sun, especially between noon and 3pm is to be avoided and students should use umbrellas to shield themselves from the sunshine when going to or leaving school. Students should also not be allowed to walk barefoot in and around the school premises.
Meanwhile, in a separate order, the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner announced that all educational institutions located around the Dangar area under Mawsynram block will remain closed with effect from April 21 for a week or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
