All citizens of Meghalaya including students are no more in Bangladesh as the country saw its worst violence that resulted in the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today and her escape to India.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today confirmed that almost all Indian citizens including from Meghalaya have returned safely to the country.
“We don’t have any other students who are stranded. Thank God at least all the students have been transferred back to Meghalaya and to Indian territory,” Tynsong told media persons here today.
He also said that in view of the prevailing situation in Bangladesh, all trade and export activities have stopped.
Meanwhile, East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate Shivansh Awasthi, today has imposed curfew from 6 pm to 6 am up to 200 metres from the zero line of the Indo-Bangladesh border.
During these periods, movement of people at the international border with the intention to cross the international boundary with Bangladesh or sneak into the Indian territory is prohibited.
Unauthorised procession or unlawful assembly of five or more persons and carrying arms and other instruments which can be used as weapons including sticks and stones in and around the Indo-Bangladesh border has also been prohibited.
The Central government has deployed a large number of army personnel in the Nongtalang area of West Jaintia Hills to guard the border from any security threat from Bangladesh.
According to people from Nongtalang, several trucks of soldiers have arrived in the village today.
Two days back, Additional Director General, BSF (Eastern Command) Ravi Gandhi visited the BSF Frontier Meghalaya and reviewed and assessed the various operational and administrative related issues.
On August 3, Gandhi went to the border outposts in East Khasi hills to assess the operational and technical issues.
Expressing his determination to stop infiltration, he provided clear direction and valuable tips. He also directed the BSF personnel at the outposts to remain extra vigilant and emphasised that security along the Indo-Bangladesh border has been bolstered to prevent any infiltration or illegal entry.
