The All Khasi Hills Achik Federation (AKHAF) has offered its support to the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) in its demand that Tura be made the winter capital of Meghalaya.
“Winter capital in Tura is a very important step that the government must look at it seriously. This is a long standing demand as well as cherished dreams of the Achik people,” AKHAF in a statement today said.
Calling the statement made by Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, who is personally against the idea, the organisation said her remark shows “immature gesture.”
The organisation also urged the government for speedy implementation of the roster system to allow youth applying for the jobs be placed in accordance with proper mechanism.
Furthermore, AKHAF raised un-employability of Garos in the DSC (District Selection Committee) in various districts of Khasi Hills. “The Garo people who are living in different districts of Khasi hills are completely deprived of getting DSC jobs neither in Garo Hills nor in Khasi Hills. Garo candidates are never given any importance by any system, there is no policy or reservation this is applied for our people living in Khasi hills in terms of DSC,” the organisation said.
Pointing out that since the DSC is a district specific recruitment of the candidates, the organisation said, “The system must consider us and give some relaxation while selecting for the jobs. The state government as well as central government must review this matter and chalk out policies to consider our neglected eligible candidates.”
