The Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) has written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressing concern over non-payment of wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme to workers in Adokgre block.

The organisation said that most of the Village Employment Council (VEC) as well as the job card holders are not getting their rightful guaranteed wage while most of the villages are getting 60 to 65 days wages in a financial year.

“This is harsh, illogical and a flagrant violation of the provisions of law under MGNREGS and a flagrant violation of fundamental rights of the needy people guaranteed under the Constitution,” AHAM said.

It appealed to the Chief Minister to take up the matter so as to promote livelihood security, rural development, and sustainable economic growth.
