Khliehriat, Dec 3: To provide a common venue for community functions, meetings and activities and to support local farmers through improved storage systems, an agricultural storage unit cum community hall was inaugurated at Moopala village today.
The building was funded under the District Mineral Fund (DMF) for the financial year 2024-2025 and supported by the Moopala Dorbar Shnong.
Sutnga-Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla in her address highlighted the importance and essence of community halls and said the Moopala community hall is the first in the district to have been constructed under the DMF. She encouraged the dorbar to set an example for other villages by maintaining the hall and utilising it effectively.
She called upon the community to make the hall a hub for all types of gatherings, ensuring it serves as a lasting asset for the village.
Additionally, she also announced a contribution of Rs 5 lakh from the Special Rural Works Programme (SRWP) to further enhance the vicinity of the hall, aiming to make the area more beautiful.
East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi said the district is abundantly blessed with natural resources and industries operating in the region have significantly contributed to the DMF.
He said that the financial support is being utilised effectively for the overall development of the district in the health, sports, education, skill development sectors and others.
Awasthi also informed about a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Mih Myntdu Community Social Welfare Association for a new Drug Rehabilitation Centre under DMF funding, with building renovation already in progress.
Junior Rural Development Officer (JRDO),Wapung C&RD Block, N. Dkhar stressed on the importance of such projects in enhancing community welfare and agricultural productivity.
