The A·chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) intensified its campaign for the establishment of a winter capital in Garo Hills with the launch of an awareness initiative Upper Damalgre of West Garo Hills.
The campaign aims to highlight the necessity of a second state capital to ensure balanced regional development, equitable governance and better accessibility for the people of Garo Hills. ACHIK members engaged with the public through speeches and interactive discussions emphasising the socio-economic benefits of the proposed winter capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Macklawrence M Sangma, ACHIK working president said that this demand is not new but is based on the principles and the agreements of Meghalaya’s founding fathers.
The pressure group plans to conduct similar awareness campaigns across various locations in the coming weeks to garner widespread public support.
