A delegation of the All Garo Hills MTET Passed Candidates Association 2021 and 2023 met Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma here on Tuesday, to submit a memorandum highlighting the long-standing concerns of candidates awaiting recruitment for the post of lower and upper primary school teachers.
During the meeting, the association urged the minister to speed up the recruitment process, which has been delayed for several years, causing deep uncertainty and hardship to thousands of qualified candidates.
A key point raised in the memorandum was the age consideration for those candidates who have now crossed the maximum age limit due to the non-conduct of recruitment examinations for many years. The association appealed for a relaxation of the age criteria for such affected candidates in the upcoming recruitment drive.
Furthermore, the association strongly requested that recruitment be conducted batch-wise, giving due preference to the 2021 and 2023 MTET passed candidates, as their wait has been the longest.
During the 2021 and 2023 MTET, the qualifying mark was 82, while in 2025 it was lowered to 68. Given that candidates in 2021 and 2023 passed under stricter norms, the association requested that due preference be given to them in the recruitment process.
