A resident of Lapangap who yesterday claimed that he was attacked by Karbis from Lakaroi village along the disputed Meghalaya-Assam border lied, Waheh Shnong Deimonmi Lyngdoh said today.
Linus Joit in a video message had made up the incident about the attack stating that around 50 people from Assam’s Karbi community shot him in the face with a wooden slingshot, while he was returning on his bicycle from Lumlakhiat village to buy a traditional herbal medicine.
However, Lyngdoh said the man fell off the bicycle and bore the injuries. After the incident was taken up with police, it was revealed that Joit made false accusations.
The waheh shnong condemned the resident and said such lies would hamper peace in the already tense inter-state border, which has seen recurring disturbances due to encroachment by Assam.
He said the dorbar shnong has also sent its volunteer to question the man and the village will not hold responsibility for such lies.
Lyngdoh also reiterated the need to deploy SF-10 during the sowing and harvesting seasons to safeguard the rights, lives, and livelihoods of the people of Lapangap village.
