More than 100 nurses and other healthcare professionals from West Garo Hills participated in a one day workshop on ‘Heart Attack vs Cardiac Arrest: What’s the Difference?’ in Tura today.
Organised by the West Garo Hills unit of the Trained Nurses Association of India, the workshop aimed to equip nurses with knowledge and skills to effectively respond to cardiac emergencies.
Experts clarified the differences between heart attacks and cardiac arrests and demonstrated intervention techniques such as CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
The session highlighted the importance of the ‘Chain of Survival’, which greatly improves survival chances in cardiac emergencies. The six interdependent links in the chain of survival are early recognition of sudden cardiac arrest and access to emergency medical care, early CPR, early defibrillation, early ACLS and physical and emotional recovery. The first three links in the chain can be performed by lay bystanders, while the second three links are designated to medical professionals.
