The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) has urged the government to temporarily shut down internet connectivity during job recruitment exams to prevent cheating.
Stating that there are instances of malpractices reported from some places involving the use of mobile internet, the JSU raised concern over the integrity of recent government recruitment examinations conducted across the state.
“Internet shutdown for a limited period during examination hours can curb at least 50–60 per cent of cheating, especially the use of AI tools,” the union said.
In a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, the union also suggested preventive measures to ensure fair and transparent recruitment processes such as strict frisking and monitoring at exam centres and CCTV surveillance in examination halls and during interviews.
