A youth organisation in Mawryngkneng has planned to hold a panel discussion cum debate for six candidates who will vie for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election from Sohryngkham constituency.
The Hynñiewtrep Youth Development Council (HYDC) at a press conference informed that the event will be held on February 15 and no political party leaders will be allowed to represent a candidate.
HYDC president Robin Nongrum said the candidates will have to attend the debate personally so that constituents will be able to make the right choices before they go to vote on February 21.
Informing that the invitation to all the six candidates has been sent, he said that so far, three candidates, including the Congress candidate, the NPP, and the KHNAM candidate, have agreed to the debate.
The contenders for the Sohryngkham constituency are Bill Clinton Wankar (VPP), Elias Kharbihkhiew (NPP), Jonathan Syiem (INC), Joseph H Pyngrope (KHNAM) and independent candidates, Kris Kharmuti and Osaphi Smithson Jyrwa.
Nongrum said that during the debate the constituents would also be allowed to ask questions by sending questions through WhatsApp number 8256977359-9863778956.
