East Garo Hills police arrested a former militant during a special operation conducted at Baringgre Chambildam village in Dambo Rongjeng, police said today.
Mexbal K. Marak alias Menil, a resident of Silchanggittim village under Rongjeng Police Station, was apprehended yesterday based on specific intelligence inputs.
East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Stephan Rynjah said the Special Operation Team commandos seized a China-made 7.65mm pistol from his possession.
During preliminary interrogation, Marak revealed that he was a member of the ANVC-B militant group. He joined the militant organization in 2008 but surrendered during the peace agreement in 2015.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
