The sub-division magistrate of Amlarem has imposed Section 163 of the BNSS after large scale poisoning of fish through improvised traps and dynamite were used in Umngot river and its streams and other water bodies within the sub-division.
The order which was issued on December 2 was shared with the media today.
The discharge of harmful chemical substances, dynamite and other effluents into the water bodies has resulted in large scale extermination of fishes and other living organism, the order said.
Such method of mass destruction of aquatic bodies has endangered the local, indigenous fish population, flora and fauna besides undermining the local ecology.
