The enquiry report on the alleged administrative failures in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is likely to be submitted by December 13.
The Ministry of Education has given its two-member inquiry committee 15 more days to complete the enquiry and submit its report.
The enquiry committee headed by former University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Prof. D P Singh had sought an additional 15 days to submit its report.
The request has been approved by the Education Ministry as per the communication by D K Himanshu, the Under Secretary to the Education Ministry.
Earlier, the committee was expected to submit the report by November 29.
The committee which also comprises former Assam University vice chancellor Prof. Dilip Chandra Nath recently held extensive discussions with student, teacher and staff representatives of NEHU.
During the visit, the committee listened to the views expressed by various stakeholders including NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU), NEHU Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and NEHU Non-teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) among others.
The inquiry aims at solving long-standing issues that have disrupted normal university activities and finding a way forward for the institution. It will also decide the future of NEHU vice chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla whose tenure has been dogged by controversies including protests by students and teachers alike.
