A Bangalore-based woman, identified only as Anisha, has had an FIR registered against her in Shillong by a pressure group for allegedly verbally abusing the Khasi community.
The woman is also accused of cruelty to animals, specifically a kitten.
The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) also accused the woman of indecent acts. All of this alleged criminal behaviour was carried out on Anisha’s Instagram page, which has apparently since had all its posts deleted.
In its FIR, HITO said that Anisha had hurled provocative abuse with insult to the dignity of individuals and hurting the sentiments of the Khasi community.
Separately, the livestream of the abuse of the kitten went viral and was shared with Shillong Happy Tails (SHT), an animal rights organisation. As Anisha is based in Bangalore, it took some time for a representative of SHT to get to the Karnataka capital. In the meantime, another person had been able to rescue the kitten, which veterinarians said had had its jaw broken, was dehydrated and had not been fed for several days.
SHT registered a formal complaint with police in Bangalore.
