Ending the 25-day long stalemate with Hima Sohra, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has finally revoked its order to notify Majai as a Raid.
This was informed by KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pynshngain N. Syiem to a delegation of the Hima Sohra who met him in his office chamber here today
The letter to the Syiem of Hima Sohra signed by the KHADC Deputy Secretary to the Executive Committee stated that there were various complaints received by the district council from different parties related to notifying Raid Majai which falls under Hima Sohra.
“The same needs to be relooked upon. Hence, vide its order dated 18th July 2024 the Executive Committee has decided to put on hold the Executive Committee order dated June 24, 2024,” the letter stated.
Meanwhile, KHADC leader of opposition and Sohra MDC, Titosstar Well Chyne said that all stakeholders under Hima Sohra were not happy nor accepted with the decision of the council to notify Majai as a Raid.
Chyne said that Majai does not deserve to receive the status of a Raid and if it is to be notified as a Raid it should be done by Hima Sohra.
Meanwhile, Milkyway Bynnud, convener of the Ki Khun Ki Hajar Hima Sohra, said that they were satisfied with the latest development.
Recently, the Hima Sohra has given the KHADC time till July 9 to revoke its order notifying Majai village as a Raid.
The Executive Dorbar of Hima Sohra, has alleged that the notification classifying Raid Majai is a game plan of the KHADC.
The Syiem of Hima Sohra, Freeman Sing Syiem, said that he and the Executive Dorbar vehemently oppose the order of the district council as it was issued without the consent of the Hima Sohra.
