The Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Ri-Bhoi District (SKRSRBD), representing headmen of Ri-Bhoi, met with the district’s Deputy Commissioner today to urge for the establishment of a local rehabilitation centre to address youth drug addiction.
The headmen reported that the increase in drug addiction has led to a spike in criminal activities, particularly theft and robbery, as addicted youths turn to crime to support their habits. This has disrupted the peace and harmony within the community, the DC was told.
SKRSRBD president BB Makdoh described the meeting as very productive, expressing gratitude to the DC for his commitment to addressing the issue. The DC assured the headmen that a rehabilitation centre will be established on a rental basis initially, providing counseling and support to help addicted youths overcome their addiction and reintegrate into society.
