The 60th SOS Day was celebrated by the SOS Children’s Village today at its Umiam campus.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh attended the programme as the chief guest. The programme witnessed dance and songs performed by the SOS children’s village.
SOS Children’s Villages India is a voluntary, non-government, self-implementing organisation engaged in the long-term care and upbringing of parentless, destitute and abandoned children in a family-like environment. India has 31 project locations spread in 22 states and territories.
Lyngdoh remarked that the children present today were not there during his visit in 2004, which was 20 years ago. Despite the passage of time, he noted that he does not feel old because of the evident long-term care and protection provided to parentless, destitute and abandoned children. He highly appreciated the dedication and sincerity of the SOS Children’s Village in Umiam.
He further attributed these achievements to divine intervention and emphasised the deep connection to the origins of the SOS movement, which began in Austria. Lyngdoh conveyed a message of hope, urging everyone to never give up and not to think that they lack opportunities and privileges. He encouraged the community to continue nurturing the spark of life in every child.
