Two exit polls gave different predictions for the Lok Sabha election results in Meghalaya.

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll results predicted the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) and ruling NPP to win the Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats respectively.

However, Matrize in its exit poll results said that Congress and NPP are likely to win either of the two seats.

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll results said that NPP and VPP are projected to share one seat each.

According to exit poll, VPP candidate Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon is likely to lead his party towards a win from Shillong seat, with a 55 per cent vote share.

It also said that Congress is likely to grab 28 per cent vote share while the NPP may bag a 10 per cent share.

The India Today-Axis My India exit poll results also said that NPP will win the Tura parliamentary constituency and NPP is expected to take the lead with a vote share of 45 per cent but with a tough competition from the Congress which is likely to grab a vote share of 43 per cent.

NPP which is part of the National Democratic Alliance was backed by the BJP which did not field any candidate from the two seats.

It may be mentioned that cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh (NPP), sitting MP Vincent Pala (Congress), Dr. Ricky A J Syngkon (VPP), Robertjune Kharjahrin (UDP) and two independents were in the fray from Shillong parliamentary constituency.

In Tura seat, the contest was between sitting MP Agatha K. Sangma (NPP), sitting MLA Saleng A. Sangma (Congress), Zenith Sangma (Trinamool Congress) and one independent candidate.

The Lok Sabha elections in Meghalaya held on April 19 saw the overall voter turnout of 76.60 per cent, with a notable difference between male and female turnout. While female voter turnout was higher at 78.80 per cent, the turnout of male voters was 74.35 per cent.

The counting of votes will be held in all district headquarters and in Sohra civil sub-division on June 4. The vote count would commence at 8 am.

There will be eight counting centres for Shillong parliamentary constituency and five counting centres for Tura parliamentary constituency.

A total of 369 tables will be used across seven districts under Shillong parliamentary constituency and 244 tables across five districts under Tura parliamentary constituency.

Mawlai Assembly segment under Shillong parliamentary constituency, which is the largest in terms of number of electors, will be counted in nine rounds.

A total of 18 counting observers have been deployed by the Election Commission of India. 12 of them will be for the Shillong seat and six for the Tura seat.
