      Among the twelve districts in the State, West Jaintia Hills tops the ranking in terms of the pass percentage for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination 2024, the results of which were announced today by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE).

      According to the data compiled by MBOSE, West Jaintia Hills recorded 78.34 per cent of students who passed the SSLC examination this year. Out of 4409 students who sat for the examination, 3454 of them passed out.

      The second spot was secured by East Khasi Hills which registered a pass percentage of 77.09. Out of 12,818 students who appeared for the examination, 9881 of them were declared as passed.

      Eastern West Khasi Hills was placed in the third position with 72.65 per cent who passed the SSLC examination. Out of 1810 students who appeared for the examination, 1315 of them passed out.

      The fourth position was bagged by East Jaintia Hills with 70.88 per cent as out of 2208 students who sat for the examination, 1565 of them were declared as passed.

      The other districts which followed in the ranking are West Khasi Hills (65.79 per cent), South West Khasi Hills (62.54 per cent) and Ri-Bhoi (59.75 per cent).

      In West Khasi Hills, out of 2403 students who appeared, 1581 of them passed out. In South West Khasi Hills, out of the 1954 students who appeared, 1222 were declared as passed. In Ri-Bhoi, out of 4005 students who appeared, 2393 of them cleared the examination.

      The worst performance was in Garo Hills region as all the districts in the region witnessed poor pass percentage.

      North Garo Hills registered just 23.88 per cent of pass percentage. Out of 4606 students who appeared, only 1100 passed out.

      It was followed by South West Garo Hills (28.41 per cent) where out of the 3657 students who sat for the examination, only 1039 were declared as passed.

      South Garo Hills registered pass percentage of 35.26. Out of 2714 students who appeared, only 957 passed out.

      East Garo Hills (39.95 per cent) saw 1177 students who passed the examination out of the 2946 who appeared.

      The best performance in the region was in West Garo Hills with 42.66 per cent of students who cleared the examination. Out of 10,604 students who sat for the examination, 4524 of them were declared as passed.

      Meanwhile, the overall pass percentage of this year’s SSLC examination in the entire State was 55.80. Out of the total 54,134 who appeared for the examination, 30,208 passed out. In 2023, the pass percentage in the State was 51.93.

      Further, there are 17,504 students who passed in all six subjects while there are 12,704 who passed in five subjects.

      Some schools even had no students pass the exam. These included Thakimagiri Secondary School in Phulbari, Sabakhthani Secondary School in Musniang Rim, Resubelpara Government Higher Secondary School, Pragatipur Secondary School, Marshilong Presbyterian Secondary School and Bhaitbari Girls’ Secondary School.
