A student from Sherwood School in Tura, Anuj Chetry, topped the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), it was announced today.
The commerce and science streams had already been announced by MBOSE earlier this month.
Chetry secured 575 marks, while Aleytheia Syiemlieh from St Margaret’s Higher Secondary School achieved second place with 574 and Congenial Kharsahnoh from Christian Academy took third place with 571 marks. The latter two schools are both in Shillong.
“I feel very happy, proud and grateful for the marks that I got and proud to have represented the school,” Chetry said, adding that he hopes to get into the IT sector after school.
Additionally, the results for the Class 12 Arts stream of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC Arts) examination showed a pass rate of 79.76 per cent.
Out of 27,374 students who appeared for the exam, 21,833 passed. Menangmankhraw Kharkongor from St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and Gaurav Bharali from St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School (both Shillong) jointly secured first position with 468 marks each.
Tanisha Das from Don Bosco College in Tura came third with 451 marks.
“We need to work hard for it (success) since nothing comes for free,” Bharali said. “You are going to achieve whatever you want only if you really work hard.”
Unusually in this day and age, Kharkongor does not have a smartphone and nor does he seem to want one, instead relying on his mother for WhatsApp messages and the like.
