The Nongalbibra ACHIK regional unit has objected to the errors in signage put up along the National highway from Dainadubi to Karonggre in South Garo Hills and demanded its immediate correction.
In a letter to the Executive Engineer National Highway Division Baghmara, South Garo Hills the organisation said such errors have reaching implications, impacting navigation, communication, tourism, and community pride.
“The signage errors are causing various problems which may seem minor but they can have significant repercussions, especially in the case of the names of villages. From Dainadubi to Karonggre, these errors can lead to confusion, miscommunication, and even economic consequences,” ACHIK regional general secretary Franklin K. Sangma said.
Pointing out that spelling error is a cause of concern Sangma said that since signage serves as a critical communication tool, providing information to residents, visitors, and travellers, accurate spelling on signage is paramount, as it ensures clarity and prevents misunderstandings.
He said the office should address the errors through a multifaceted approach, including community engagement, training, technology integration, and regular maintenance.
