A man drowned in Umiam Lake when a boat on which he was riding with his son and four others capsized, officials said.
The incident happened at around 2 pm yesterday due to strong winds.
The man identified as Mahamsing Sten (39) of Kiewkyrdem, Ri Bhoi District was riding in a boat during a picnic. His 10 year old son and four others manage to swim ashore.
A team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and locals searched for the drowned man. The body was found today.
