A broom and ginger storehouse and a beauty parlour were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire at Umsawnongkharrai village, Ri Bhoi in the early hours today.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 am, police said.
The properties are owned by Philinda Shylla and Sabina Lapang.
According to the villagers, despite efforts to contain the fire by the fire and emergency service from Nongpoh nothing could be salvaged from the two shops.
Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are underway.
In the wake of this tragedy, the affected individuals and the community at large are coming together to extend support and assistance to the two residents.
