From now onwards, the State Water Informatics Centre will be the agency that will document information related to water bodies including watersheds, spring sheds etc in Meghalaya.
The centre will operate with the Department of Water Resources as the lead department.
The decision was taken by the State cabinet at its meeting here today.
The State Water Informatics Centre will also monitor the water bodies throughout the year and share the data with the concerned departments so that proper informative decisions can be made as mandated by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
