A new monitoring information system on retail prices of essential commodities has been launched in the State.
The initiative, a first of its kind, is a collaboration between the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP), India.
The monitoring system was inaugurated by Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, Comingone Ymbon today.
The dashboard, developed with technical expertise from the WFP, will process data captured by the districts regarding the daily prices of 22 essential commodities in the open market.
This dynamic dashboard provides a range of data visibility options, including map and table views, allowing viewers to easily interpret information and stay updated on the latest price trends.
The use of this technology will enable data-driven decision-making and course correction based on consistent data from the districts.
By presenting the data in dynamic visual infographics, the dashboard enhances decision-making efficiency.
One of the main goals of this initiative is to control pricing and combat the issue of rising prices, which has adversely affected the citizens of Meghalaya especially for those in marginalised and impoverished communities.
The launch event was attended by representatives from the WFP, including WFP India Country Director Elisabeth Faure.
