More than 10 shops in Nongpoh have been targetted by arsonists this year alone, with another being attacked last night.
This time, unknown miscreants tried to set alight a pharmacy at Pahamsyiem, though they were foiled by a strong shutter.
Owner Meshwar Singh, Rangbah Shnong and the Rangbah Dong filed an FIR at Nongpoh police station today.
Singh said that he left his pharmacy at 8:30pm on Saturday and, when his staff came to the shop today morning, they found the remnants of a molotov cocktail, with the shutter displaying burn marks.
“I didn’t have anyone in my mind to suspect but I urge whoever did this should stop and since the FIR has been filed, we hope that the police will do their duty,” Singh said.
The shopkeeper from a nearby shop was present at the location until around 10pm but did not see anything suspicious. However, if the fire had reached his shop, the gas cylinder inside it could have led to a major conflagration, he opined.
