In a heinous incident, the body of a girls, approximately aged 12-13, was recovered on August 1 from Jangrapara village, West Garo Hills.
An inquest and autopsy were carried out and a case registered at Tura women’s police station under sections of the law dealing with rape of a minor and murder read with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
No arrests have been made yet, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore said today, but police are investigating the case meticulously and there are strong clues about the suspect involved.
The identity of the deceased is not being revealed “in the interest of investigation and as a mark of respect to the departed soul.”
The public have been cautioned against spreading rumours or speculation, especially on social media. If any information is available regarding the suspect, this can be shared with the Tura Police Control Room (8837423053). His/her identity shall be kept secret.
