A team of Meghalaya Police is in Guwahati to arrest five kingpins involved in setting up of illegal coke oven plants in the State.
The kingpins have been identified as Amit Baghla, Ranjanlal Singhal, Deepak Singla, Pawan Kumar Jha and Rishi Agarwala.
The police team arrived at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati and sought the assistance of Guwahati police to carry out an operation to nab the identified coal mafias.
It may be mentioned that the Meghalaya High Court has recently ordered the State government to seek the help of Assam police in nabbing all the kingpins involved in coke oven factories in the State and their accomplices.
The State police on June 15 arrested Youdishtra Bhama of Bongaon, Beltola, Guwahati. He is the owner of illegal coke plant Kalyani Fuels Ltd located at Shahlang.
On June 26, police arrested four more persons who operated illegal coke plants in Shahlang.
They are Ashish Arya (32 ) of Basisthapur By-Lane, Guwahati, Yaman Bansal (28) of Beltola Tiniali, Guwahati, Khrawbok Rongrin of Sohbar A, Shahlang, and Hopeful Nongtdu of Rymbai Synrang Shahkhain, East Jaintia Hills.
