On the recent incident that occurred at Umsyiem village near Dawki, the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has expressed concern that more clashes will occur between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the public if the state government does not take stronger action.
Four people, including two BSF personnel, sustained injuries on Sunday evening after a scuffle broke out between the border guards and civilians in Umsyiem.
This was at least the third clash between the border guards and Meghalayans since May 5, when the BSF had shot dead a man they claimed to have been smuggling cattle, a crime the family members denied.
KHNAM leader Thomas Passah said that it is the duty of the state government to look at the peace and security aspect of the civilians and the BSF cannot cross the limit or encroach the jurisdiction of the government.
“These doings of the BSF show that it is not bothered about the power of the district administration, which is illegal, and the government should filed an FIR against the BSF as per the section Sections 147, 148, 323, 353, 427 of the Indian Penal Code,” he said.
He also said that KHNAM demands that the government institute an inquiry commission on all the doings of the BSF as per the central Commissions of Inquiry Act and to remove the BSF from civilian places and to ensure that they only operate on the international border.
