Exporters and importers in East Jaiñtia Hills district has called on Revenue Minister Kyrmen Shylla asking him to pursue with their demand for setting up of a Land Customs Station (LCS).
The East Jaiñtia Mineral Supplier Exporter Importer Association (EJMSEIA) led by President Wanshwa Nongtdu said the proposal for setting up the LCS in Kuliang or Umkiang was made in 2001 by the centre.
Seeking Shylla’s intervention to raise the issue with the central government, the association said installation of the LCS would boost trade and help the economy.
Nongtdu said keeping in mind the rich resources of Jaintia Hills, a LCS would be ideal for promoting trade in the region and improve the living conditions of the people as commercial activities with neighbouring Bangladesh can start.
