The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) continues to remain tight-lipped over if or when the part will merge with the National People’s Party (NPP).
PDF members held an internal meeting of its executive committee today. Speaking to reporters afterwards, PDF president and Sohra MLA, Gavin Mylliem, said that details will be shared with the media at the appropriate time.
Banteidor Lyngdoh, the other PDF MLA in the Assembly, also simply said that everything will be done very soon, openly, at the right time and with the consent of all.
When asked if the discussion with the NPP is on, he said that the discussions are happening every day.
The PDF was part of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government from 2018 to 2023, with two of its legislators in the cabinet.
The PDF lost two of its four incumbent MLAs to the NPP prior to February’s state election (though both of those went on to lose the polls). Lyngdoh had also claimed that he had rejected an NPP offer of Rs 5 crore to defect. After the election results were declared, the PDF was part of the exploration of the possibility of a non-NPP government that quickly collapsed. However, although it joined forces with the NPP once again, it was left out of the cabinet.
