The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has written to the authorities to raise concerns about the state of Balpakram National Park.
During a visit last month, the GSMC found that there is a shortage of quality accommodation, water and electricity.
Water pipes are frequently damaged by wild elephants, staff informed the GSMC. There is also no guide for tourists, no forester and only one ranger; in the past there had been at least two foresters (now retired) and two to three rangers in the division.
This is simply not good enough for the ‘pride of Garoland’, the GSMC said.
The park should have its facilities improved so that it becomes famous at the global level and a big draw for tourists, it added.
