A 24-year old student reportedly drowned in Od-Ringai natural pool at Mawten village under South West Khasi Hills district today.
The deceased, Abhishek Kumar Mondal, who hails from Jharkhand, was a chemical engineering student of IIT, Guwahati, officials said.
According to reports, Mondal was swimming in the pool with five of his friends when he suddenly drowned in the 20-feet deep natural pool at around 10 am.
A team from the Fire & Emergency Service, who had to trek about 2 hours to reach the spot, successfully retrieved the body at around 4 pm.
Police said the body has been taken to Mawkyrwat CHC and other formalities will be conducted after the arrival of his relatives.
