National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president Prestone Tynsong today exuded confidence that the National People’s Party (NPP) will return to the Secretariat with 35-36 winners after the elections.
Addressing a general meeting of the party in Mawngap under Mawphlang constituency, Tynsong said calculations were made after he recently visited Garo Hills. He claimed that the party will clinch 14 seats in Garo hills and 19 in the Khasi-Jaintia region. “So we are sure to win 35-36 seats. It is just a matter of few days and we will once again take charge of Secretariat,” Tynsong stated.
Stating that the NPP has always been a target of other political parties he claimed that since the party is climbing up and strong, mudslinging will happen.
Tynsong said for decades the boundary issue had been an eyesore until the MDA government managed to resolve the dispute in six out of twelve areas of differences in the first phase.
“I have been in the government for a very long time and on many occasions, I had accompanied the then Chief Minister (Dr Mukul Sangma) for a meeting to resolve the boundary dispute, but the meetings always ended in ‘maintaining status quo’,” he said.
“The word status quo has been used so many times that in Khasi now, the word can be translated to ‘Sha bneng ruh em, khyndew ruh em – shu sdien lydui’ which means ‘Not heaven nor earth – just in between’,” he said, adding, “Now we have our dear TMC party who in its manifesto has assured if voted to power they will scrap MoU. TMC is ‘Myder Ri (non Khasi) they will not win a single seat…”.
Tynsong also attacked the party’s coalition partner, the United Democratic Party UDP and mocked how one of its leaders came up with “UDP-O” and that it will not be able to garner 31 seats as claimed.
