The BJP’s Meghalaya unit today hit out at the Congress Party after one of its senior members in Madhya Pradesh urged party workers to be ready to “kill [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi”.
Raja Pateria, a former state minister, triggered huge controversy with a speech in which he is heard goading his audience to “kill” Modi if they want to “save” the Constitution. He immediately clarified that by “killing” he meant “defeating” but the damage was done.
While disregarding the threat itself as trivial and without any credibility, the BJP condemned the Congress mindset for making such a statement. State BJP chief spokesperson, Edmund Sangma, said that such a statement shows how desperate the Congress has become.
“While the Congress is known to make demeaning remarks against our Prime Minister, this is a new low even for their low standards,” Sangma said. “Today the Congress has become insignificant and irrelevant in the country.”
Sangma also said that Modi is no longer just the Prime Minister but is now “an idea which stands for progress, development and inclusiveness.”
