The court of the Special Judge (POCSO) in West Garo Hills has sentenced two persons to imprisonment for crimes committed on minor children.
Lukias G Momin was sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 60,000. The court said in default of payment, he shall undergo simple imprisonment for a further period of six months.
Momin had molested a minor on February 18, 2016. The case was investigated by WP/UBI G.T. Sangma and the chargesheet was submitted on July 26, 2016. The court has found Momin guilty of the crime and convicted him under Section 71 of IPC and Section 42 of POCSO Act 2012.
The court also sentenced Arindom Das to one and half years of simple imprisonment and fine of Rs. 20,000 for molestation of a minor. He will have to undergo simple imprisonment for a further period of six months in default of payment.
Das committed the crime on May 16, 2016 which was investigated by WPSI Renu D Momin. Following the chargesheet on November 29, 2016 the court convicted him under Section 8 R/W Section 18 of POCSO Act 2012.
Meanwhile, the District & Session Judge in West Garo Hills sentenced one Nenggrik D Sangma to four years simple imprisonment and another seven years for the offence u/s 376 (i) IPC.
Sangma had sexually assault a school girl on June 2, 2017. The court also ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 20, 000 and Rs 50,000 and in default he shall undergo a simple imprisonment for another three months.
The case was registered at Tura Women PS, which was investigated by WP/UBSI Salmay R. Marak. A chargesheet was submitted on May 1, 2018 and the court convicted him under Section 368/376 (i) IPC.
